Doesn't it feel amazing when you finish those little things, though?

Polenta with add-ins is one of my favorite quick dinners. It's so simple to make and it's basically a blank slate for flavors so you can use up whatever you have on hand to come up with a nutritious, gourmet dinner in no time.

Oh, thank you!

After sending several carloads (!) of stuff to Value Village to donate, I feel like I'm down to the last of it. I'm guessing that if I really try, there is probably one more box of donations, maybe two at the most. That's a great feeling!

Right now we're in the phase of working hard to uncomplicate our lives! Decluttering and finishing half-finished home projects are part of our daily routine right now. You polenta dinner sounded great, by the way!

YES!! You and I must be on the same channel because we are in a huge decluttering project at my house. I have just reached the end of my rope with all the STUFF we own. We donated probably 300 books to a charity last week, and I have a garage full of stuff for a garage sale.

I just found your blog and am enjoying it. :O)

Yes, the act of creating is so tremendously satisfying, and I agree with Mr. Heinlein, the world needs more Renaissance people. Many, many more of them.

For me, a lot of it has to do with the actual hands-on elements. I learned to enjoy cooking a few years ago because I discovered the art form it can be. And while sustainability is a big motivator for a lot of my newer skills, in many ways I am an artist first and foremost. The sheer act of creation is amazing in and of itself, especially in a society where more and more people see lacking these skills as a sign of "progress". As Heinlein said, "A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects".
